Case Study
Connecting a Mobile

Situation:
Like many clients with a sales team, this mortgage company in Hartford faced the challenge of how to link its company network to a mobile sales force that was constantly on the road. The team of a dozen salespeople needed secure remote access to the network server, email, and database program. In addition, the client sought to lower overhead costs by reducing office space. To accomplish this, the client wanted a shared area in the building where employees could choose an available workspace, instead of defined individual offices or cubicles.
Response:
To address the client’s first concern, IT Direct designed and implemented a Virtual Private Network (VPN) for the outside sales staff. This allowed the team to have secure remote access to email, personal calendars, and address books while on the road. It also gave the sales team the ability to retrieve internal files and to print documents in the office from a remote location.
To solve the client’s second dilemma, IT Direct implemented a wireless extension of their network that allowed the staff to work anywhere within the multi-floor office without having to plug in to a specific data outlet. Applying this wireless network within a shared work area eliminated the need for costly real estate for 12 individual offices.
